Punjab schools to reopen tomorrow, govt. issues instructions
The Punjab Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, tweeted today that all Punjab schools will reopen tomorrow, July 17, 2023, as usual. Constant rainfall in Punjab and neighbouring states led to a flood-like situation in the state, prompting the government to close schools for the protection of students and faculty. The AAP-led Punjab Government initially ordered the state’s schools to be closed from July 11 to 13, but the flood-like conditions compelled the government to extend the school holidays until July 16, 2023.
Before reinstating the schools, Bains has also ordered the concerned authorities to examine all safety parameters. “All State Deputy Commissioners are directed to ensure that the premises of Government/Aid/Recognized and Private schools are safe for children in coordination with the Panchayat, Education, Local Government, Irrigation, Public Works, and other Departments,” he tweeted.
However, if a school or neighbourhood remains flooded or a school building is damaged, the Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts may proclaim a holiday only for those schools.
