After discovering nothing but magazines and low-quality paperback fiction, he realised he could capitalise on the concept of high-quality paperbacks, which would increase profits by allowing more people to access excellent fiction at lower prices. From then on, publishers and consumers favoured paperback books. Many new books are published in paperback before they are published in hardcover.
