It is believed that Masik Durgashtami is a particularly auspicious day for devotees of the goddess Durga. It is believed that observing this vrat with devotion can bring devotees serenity, prosperity, and happiness. It is also believed to provide protection against negative energies and malevolent forces.

Masik Durgashtami Rituals

Early in the morning on the day of Monthly Durgashtami, devotees take an ablution. They don new clothing and pray to the goddess Durga. In addition, they perform special puja rituals and offer the deity flowers, fruits, and treats.

On this day, some devotees also observe a fast by consuming only one meal. In addition, they offer special foods such as kheer and halwa to the goddess Durga.

Additionally, many devotees recite the Durga Chalisa, a hymn dedicated to the deity, and offer her fervent prayers. Some devotees visit Durga temples to request the deity’s blessings.
During the Navratri celebrations, in addition to the monthly vrat, Durgashtami is also observed as a significant Hindu festival. On this day, it is believed that Goddess Durga vanquished the demon Mahishasura; hence, it is also known as Mahashtami.
