National Bacon Burnt Ends Day is observed annually on June 29. Nearly everything has a designated day, including eyeglasses, nail polish, waffle makers, and bacon charred ends! Fort Worth residents desired their national holiday, and they were successful. The Heims family operates two successful Fort Worth restaurants. With a food truck and pop-up meals in friends’ backyards, they developed a devoted following beginning in 2013. On June 29, 2013, the Heims’ first serving of bacon was burned.

The background of National Bacon Burnt End Day

The origin of bacon begins with the appearance of the pig in Southeast Asia approximately two million years ago. Early habitats hunted wild boars around 10000 B.C., but domesticating pigs proved substantially safer. The Chinese were the first to use salt to preserve flesh around 1500 B.C. For farmers in central Europe, curing hogs with salt from the region’s mines, which was rich in nitrate, was the great bacon breakthrough.

Bacon did not originally refer to preserved pork flesh as it does today. Bacon may have been derived from pig’s back phrases before pork belly. Sir Walter Raleigh brought sows to Jamestown in 1607, and in the 1600s, the English imported piglets to their American colonies. The 1899-founded organisation promotes agricultural education through competitions, scholarships, education, and agricultural festivals.
