HPV Awareness Day 2023: International Day for HPV Awareness is annually observed on March 4. It was created to help disseminate information about HPV and educate people about vaccinations and other preventative measures. It helps individuals comprehend the risks, symptoms, and signs of HPV. It is known that the virus is the leading cause of cervical cancer. This virus has also been linked to the development of skin and mucosal cancers.
The purpose of this holiday is to promote better public health by increasing awareness of H.P.V. This is an internationally recognised holiday. Its primary objective is to inform the general public about how to effectively prevent the spread of the virus. International HPV Awareness Day is also an opportunity to recognise and honour those who have overcome cancers caused by HPV. HPV is a significant health concern that affects a large number of people.
According to the International Papillomavirus Society, over 700,000 people are affected by the disease annually. The objective is to assist everyone in the world in gaining a deeper understanding of H.P.V. and implementing measures to halt the virus’s spread. H.P.V. is a common and dangerous virus. It is known to cause cancers such as cervical cancer, skin cancer, and throat cancer.
HPV is spread through direct contact with an infected individual. In most cases, infection is asymptomatic, and the virus can be eliminated by the immune system before it becomes pathogenic. It may also result in a persistent viral illness that manifests in various ways. It can cause cancer, skin lesions, and inflammation of the mucous membranes. Cancers of the cervix, vagina, vulva, anus, and penis can develop when the immune system fails to eliminate a virus from the body promptly.
Cancers caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) can be prevented using well-established protection tools such as primary prevention measures (vaccination) and secondary prevention measures (screening).
