National LED Light Day 2023: Date, History, Facts about LED Lights

As with every great invention, it took a considerable amount of time to devise and market LED lights worldwide. This is because humans have a tendency to reject innovations they cannot comprehend, and it may take a decade for them to realize how essential the innovation is.

National LED Light Day, celebrated annually on October 7, was established by Bridgelux in 2016. The purpose of the event was to commemorate the discovery and invention of LED lights, as well as their widespread use in ordinary life. However, as the day progressed, it began to emphasize the numerous benefits LED lights have for the environment, which is currently experiencing a catastrophic energy crisis. Do you wish to contribute to the bright future of planet Earth? Celebrate the day with great enthusiasm and raise awareness about the many benefits of LED lighting.

The background of National LED Light Day

As with every great invention, it took a considerable amount of time to devise and market LED lights worldwide. This is because humans have a tendency to reject innovations they cannot comprehend, and it may take a decade for them to realize how essential the innovation is. Oleg Losev, a Russian inventor, invented the first LED light in 1927, but nothing was done with the research until decades later.

Despite the fact that Oleg had published his discovery in Soviet, German, and British scientific journals, his work remained undetected until the mid-1990s. Zoltan Bay and Gyorgy Szigeti invented and patented the first LED in 1939.

In the 1960s, only red LEDs were accessible for use. William Shockley filed a patent for an infrared LED at this period, and Nick Holonyak created the first practical visible-spectrum LED. This was only the beginning. Hewlett-Packard began incorporating LEDs into calculators in 1968. Additionally, additional experiments were conducted with LED hues, and in 1972, M. George Craford invented the first yellow LED. However, it wasn’t until 2006 that Shuji Nakamura created a white LED.

Due to this discovery, he was awarded the Millennium Technology Prize. It also altered our lives, as the white LED can now be found in kitchens worldwide. By the year 2019, LED lighting had been installed in every residence on the planet.
