National Take Your Dog to Work Day, observed annually on the Friday after Father’s Day (June 23), celebrates one of our most cherished companions. The most difficult part of the day is leaving our four-legged fur babies behind as we proceed to the office, wouldn’t you agree? How could we resist when Pet Sitters International (PSI) suggested we bring them along? Dogs enliven even the dullest days, so it stands to reason that they will exponentially increase the fun factor at work. Don’t leave the house without your briefcase and a doggie bag. We will see you at work!
The background of National Take Your Dog to Work Day
But if your company gives you the go-ahead, this is a wonderful opportunity to show off your dog to your coworkers. National Take Your Dog to Work Day began in 1999 as a means to honour and promote adoptions of companion dogs. Bringing your companion to work all day may make it difficult to complete all of your duties. As the dog is an excellent icebreaker, however, you may be able to interact with your coworkers in an entirely new manner if you bring him along. You may be able to persuade your boss to allow you to celebrate this holiday with Fido by your desk if you convince him or her that this notion will improve communication and teamwork.
National Take Your Dog to Work Day, which was first observed in 1999, honours our profound affection for canines. PSI did not propose the holiday because of our admiration for man’s best friend alone. National Take Your Dog to Work Day aims to promote pet adoptions ingeniously. Hopefully, non-pet owners will be persuaded to adopt a pet after witnessing the special connection their coworkers share with their pets at these workplace events.
Call local animal shelters and rescue organisations. With nearly 4 million canines entering shelters annually in the United States, animal rescue has become a significant issue for Americans. Companies care what their employees care about, and it is evident that we care about canines. Therefore, companies benefit from corporate involvement from both a community outreach and employee engagement standpoint.
Around 300 businesses hosted National Take Your Dog to Work Day events in 1999, and the holiday’s popularity has progressively increased since then. Twenty years later, more than 63 million households in the United States own at least one dog, and the pet industry is projected to have grossed over $70 billion in 2019. Our canines (and cats) are members of our family, and we treat them as if they were our children. In response, we now see dog-friendly companies that do not limit the number of days an employee can bring Buddy to work to one.
So, elevate the WOOF and prepare to host a National Take Your Dog to Work Day event using the excellent ideas and resources provided.

NATIONAL DAY OF TAKING YOUR DOG TO WORK ACTIVITIES
Donate to a local sanctuary
A central aspect of the holiday is the charitable support of local animal shelters and the adoption of rescue canines. Ask employees to “pay” with money or donated items to bring their dog to work. Invite a representative from a local animal shelter to your event to discuss their mission, share success stories, and provide information about adoptable canines.
Obtain a New Job
So, your employer does not allow dogs? It may be time to move on to sites with more vegetation. Certainly the next time you chance to look, if not now. These businesses were deemed the most dog-friendly in 2019, when every day is National Dog Day. Day to Bring Your Dog to Work!
Learn During Lunch
If your employer is opposed to the concept of dogs in the workplace, you can persuade them to participate through animal education. Monday of this week is Take Your Cat to Work Day (also known as Take Your Pet to Work Week), so all animal enthusiasts would enjoy a lunchtime discussion about pet care or pet trends.
