Ryan Proulx was an experienced diver and fishing charter captain, according to WTSP. An unknown amount of time after he departed the East Hartford Police Department in 2021, he established his own fishing charter company in Rhode Island.
Thursday, June 15th, Proulx departed the Palm Beach County marina in Florida bound for the Bahamas. According to Steve Diffenbacher, Proulx’s friend, the former police officer travelled to the area frequently to convey boats for his clients.
Ryan Proulx was last seen free diving at the Bimini Barge wreck on Friday. The Coast Guard informed the public that he was donning snorkels, a green shirt, athletic shorts, and red dive fins at the time of his disappearance.
ABC reported that the barge ruin, a popular diving destination, is situated approximately 75 feet below the surface. Due to its reputation for intense currents, Scuba Schools International recommends that only advanced divers swim in the vicinity of the site.
The US Coast Guard and Royal Bahamas Defence Force collaborated in the search for him after he was reported missing. Officer Eric Rodriguez, a specialist in public affairs for the US Coast Guard, stated that the organisation dispatched two helicopters and one HC-144 turboprop aircraft to cover the area where Proulx went missing.
Six and a half hours were spent searching a 673-foot radius for indications of the missing American diver. The United States Coast Guard officially declared the end of the search after futile efforts.
While the Proulx family did not issue a statement, the victim’s sister frequently discussed the investigation on her personal Twitter account. She then thanked the numerous agencies for their participation in the search for Ryan Proulx.
