The final two digits of the EDG number are used to create an organized timetable for SNAP benefit distribution, which guarantees that households receive their monthly allotments from the first to the 28th of the month.

Benefits that are prorated at application may be deposited into the household’s Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) account as a single payment, together with the prorated amount and future monthly allotment. Benefits, however, cannot be used to pay for deposits on refundable containers or to buy non-food items like soap, paper goods, vitamins, medications, home goods, grooming supplies, pet food, or cosmetics.
